Today’s hunting horn is an instrument you even find in classical orchestras. The “cattle gun” is something similar. It is an original authentic Himba instrument and used to move the cattle. The “cattle gun” is produced by utilizing the straight horns of a Gemsbok or Oryx, how this animal is frequently called. The cattle gun isn’t used by the Herero because they keep their cattle at one place. Traditional Himba with a nomadic or semi-nomadic existence move with their cattle. Today, Himba have a variety of lifestyles and many of them conduct agriculture and mixed farming similar like the Herero. The skills required to play a Himba “cattle gun” are similar to the once of a didgeridoo or didjeridu.
